CANBERRA, Sept 2 Asia Pulse - Australian Trade Minister Mark Vaile has played down fears that wheat sales to Iraq could be jeopardised because of Australia's support for a possible United States strike.
Iraq has threatened to cancel all Australian wheat sales and to send Australian troops home in body bags.
But Mr Vaile said Iraq could quickly ease tensions by allowing United Nations weapons inspectors into the country and said economic relationships operated separately from military ones.
"The AWB proved the value of their relationship with their customer in Iraq ... resolved issues surrounding the future prospects of the wheat trade, but Australia's position on this issue really hasn't changed for a number of years," he told the Ten Network.
"We stand with the rest of the international community firmly behind the Security Council resolutions with regard to weapons of mass destruction and getting weapons inspectors in.
"This whole issue can be very quickly resolved by the Iraqi government allowing weapons inspectors back into Iraq.
