Althia Gauthier's mother was only 42 when she had a heart attack A smoker with high blood pressure and a poor diet, Gauthier's mother had no idea what she was experiencing, no inkling that she was at risk for a heart attack at her age.

Instead of calling out for help, she lit up a cigarette and waited it our in a women's restroom. The heart attack didn't kill her, but lymphoma did, years later. Then Gauthier's father died from diabetes two years ago, largely from factors related to his diet and lifestyle.
