Men aren't known for being great communicators, but recently some of them opened up. During focus-group discussions conducted by The National Marriage Project, men shared in detail why they're in no hurry to marry. The Project's report of these discussions, "The State of Our Unions 2002," lists the top reasons why men won't commit.
Reason Number One--yep, you guessed it: Men can easily get sex without marriage. To their own disadvantage, women have made it too easy for men to exploit them as sex objects. As one of the men remarked, "If a girl wants it on the first night we go out, I definitely lose respect for her, 'cause she's probably doing it with someone else." Some of the others admitted it's up to the woman "to hold them in check" because "we'll always push for more."
Reason Number Two: Men can move in with a woman and enjoy a pseudo-wife without tying the knot. One benefit of cohabitation, according to the men in the study, is that they can determine compatibility for potential future marriage.
