Kamil Musaev, a twenty-two-year-old cellist from Uzbekistan, won first place in the 2002 Kingsville International Young Performers Competitions. Musaev, who studies with Eleanore Schoenfeld at the University of Southern California, will receive a total of $6,000 in cash prizes and will perform with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra during its 2002-2003 season.
The second-place winner in the final competition was nineteen-year-old pianist Chu-Fang Huang, who will receive $5,000 in total prizes and will perform with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra during its 2003-2004 season. She is a student of Claude Frank at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Third-place winners in the final competition were twenty-two-year-old saxophonist Timothy Dearmin, from McAllen, Texas, and fourteen-year-old violinist Lydia Hong from Northbrook, Illinois.
