Plitvice National Park
Another paradise of waterfalls, lying halfway between Zagreb and Zadar on highway 13, is Plitvice, which became a national park in 1949 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
The best place to enter the recreation area is at its southern end (marked as Ulaz, or entrance, No. 2) where the hotels Jezero, Plitvice and Bellevue are located (see map A). Leave your vehicle at one of the, hotels and' walk (there is no transportation) downhill to the entrance booth (20 minutes), where you buy the 10-kuna ($1.10) map and a 60-kuna ($7.50) ticket, good for one day. The map suffices for navigating the park. For more information, you can buy the booklet "Plitvice Lake, National Park" at the gift shop of the hotels.
If there is no parking space at the inns, leave your car on the large lot on the, east side of the road (across the highway from the sign Ulaz No. 1), where an information office and mini-market are located. From there, it is quite a walk to the ticket kiosk.
Note that the only thoroughfare through the park open to. automobiles is highway 13 from Zagreb to Zadar. All other...
