ISLAMABAD, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - The World Bank will continue to support Pakistan in energy sector, financial and infrastructure reforms over the medium term through policy level services as well as financial assistance.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will support the emergence of strong private commercial banks and financial institutions through selective investments.
According to the country assistance strategy of the Bank released on Tuesday, the IFC and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) will seek opportunities to mobilise additional private investment in infrastructure in the face of substantial political risk, which has been a deterrent to investment.
The IFC will also support the development of new products to better meet the needs of the private sector, and expand access to financial services to new clients, and to the small and medium enterprises sector.
Within infrastructure, the bank will give strategic priority to the development of the natural gas sector.
