CANBERRA, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLS) had significantly lifted its game in country areas in recent years, chief executive Ziggy Switkowski said today.
Telstra's board is meeting in Alice Springs for the Year of the Outback.
Dr Switkowski said Telstra was committed to the bush where it had three million customers.
Wireless networks had been extended in recent years and high-speed internet access was becoming available.
"We've certainly lifted our game in terms of the performance of the basic network and you'll expect to see progress in all of those areas into the years ahead," Dr Switkowski told the Nine Network.
He said Telstra now managed 90 to 95 per cent scores for rural service performance after 40 to 50 per cent when quarterly report cards began in 1998.
