SYDNEY, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Airlines including discount carrier Virgin Blue could be operating out of the former Ansett terminal at Sydney Airport by September, the airport's owners say.
Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) said it had started talks with a number of carriers this week on the issue of access to the terminal's 18 gates, 35 check-in counters and other facilities.
"Constructive negotiations have already commenced with a number of SACL's airline customers, and SACL is committed to having airlines operating out of the former Ansett terminal in September," SACL said in a statement.
"SACL is targeting the terminal to be ready for commercial operations by September 2, 2002."
Virgin Blue is among those included in the discussions, but SACL took a swipe at the discount carrier for using the media to further its campaign for space.
"Regrettably, whilst commercial negotiations have progressed with other airlines, it is unfortunate that representatives of Virgin Blue are seeking to extract leverage via the media," the SACL statement said.
