On January 22, 2001, two-year-old Makayla Klingler was asleep in the master bedroom of a mobile home in Olney, Illinois, when fire broke out in the living room. The flames spread rapidly, filling the dwelling with dense smoke and preventing a woman who had initially fled from returning for Makayla.
