On June 19th, the Bush administration proposed a UN Security Council resolution to "exempt peacekeepers from prosecution" by the International Criminal Court, reported the AP. "We will not put American men or women under the reach of the International Criminal Court while serving in a United Nations peacekeeping operation," asserted U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the UN Richard Williamson, who introduced the draft resolution. The proposed resolution would immunize "not only soldiers in UN peacekeeping missions and civilians in UN peace-building activities, but [also] participants in operations authorized by the United Nations such as the NATO-led forces in Bosnia and Kosovo and the international force in Afghanistan."
