ROBIN ROY : The good news is cricket is back. And the bad news is that Kolkatans will not see the action.
RPG and Siticable, the major operators in the city, have joined hands to "teach Entertainment and Sports Network and Star Sports a lesson".
"The channel had increased its per point rate from Rs 16 in December 2001 to Rs 24 in January. In May-June this year they are back with a new demand. They want us to increase the connectivity to about 60 per cent," Suresh Chetia of Siticable told TNN.
He said, "ESPN-Star Sports did not get the football World Cup rights. After this triangular series, the channel conglomerate does not have anything exciting for Indian viewers. It (ESPN-Star) does not even have the cricket World Cup rights, which probably Set Max will show. What is the justification in bowing to such pressure? "When Ten Sports came up with the soccer World Cup rights, we could not ask viewers to dish out the extra cash. Now ESPN-Star wants us to pressure the viewer further."
