: Karnataka ``wastes'' Rs 3,000 crore worth horticulture and agriculture products every year.
- Only 2 per cent of agriculture produce is processed as against 30 per cent in developed countries.
- Karnataka's agro exports can earn Rs 5,000 crore in three years, if channeled.
In an attempt to tap the high cash potential of the agriculture-horticulture- floriculture sector, Karnataka -- India's third highest producer of fruits and vegetables -- is all set to unveil the state's first-ever agro-food policy.
``We have 10 agro-climatic zones, so we can grow virtually anything. We want to provide a competitive environment and boost exports,'' Industrial Development Commissioner G. Gurucharan told the The Times of India.
The plan, pending cabinet clearance, includes setting up of four agro-export zones, agro-parks in every district, special incentives to agro-food processors and a public-private joint venture company for marketing.
