New Delhi: A constable went berserk on Sunday and sprayed at least 17 bullets at his relative at the Mayur Vihar police station.
At about 11.45 am, constable Surinder (40), who was on guard at the police station, opened fire from his official carbine and pumped bullets into his relative, Satish (32). Police said Satish received at least 10 bullet injuries. A woman head constable, Panwati, also came in the line of fire and was hit on the shoulder.
The constable was finally overpowered by his colleagues and arrested for murder. ''For a few seconds we didn't realise what was going on. Some of us thought it was a terrorist attack,'' said another constable.
Deputy commissioner of police, east, Arvind Deep said Surinder had apparently suspected Satish of having an illicit relationship with his wife. Satish, who was married to Surinder's cousin, lived in the same house with Surinder in Radhey Puri, Krishna Nagar. Surinder has two sons aged 10 and 12.
