: A probe into the Tughlakabad Fort land scam has cast a shadow on the Okhla police amid suspicions that they played a role in the construction of an illegal colony inside the fort.
The government land was illegally encroached between year 1999 and 2000. Hundreds of people were duped by property dealers and local residents who posed as owners of the land and sold it to unsuspecting customers.
"So far, we have arrested eight land grabbers in this connection," said economic offences wing (EOW) DCP Dinesh Bhatt. Two cases related to trespass, cheating, forgery, misappropriation of government land and criminal intimidation have been registered.
The EOW, which is conducting an inquiry into the case, plans to probe the local police's role. "The police is not expected to be unaware of illegal construction activities inside the fort premises," said ACP (EOW) Vijay Malik.
