COUNTRY BOOTMAKER 
 
   In a country town's main street, 
   At a small square window, 
   He dons a cured-hide apron, 
   Its pockets wide and shallow. 
 
   The window opens to the north 
   And prime spring light. 
   Inside: scrapings, shavings, tanned arms; 
   And shoes waiting, heels upright.
