Muthappa Rai grilled on Dawood links.
: Dawood aide and underworld don Muthappa Rai was brought to Bangalore from New Delhi on Thursday morning by a team of heavily armed sleuths.
He was whisked from the airport tarmac by CBI, IB and city police officers to the CBI office in a high-security convoy, after his arrival at 8.45 am. Thereafter, Rai was subjected to over five hours of intensive interrogation and given a lie-detector test.
He was grilled on the whereabouts of India's most-wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, the mastermind behind the Mumbai bomb blasts. He was also asked about their hand in narcotics, gun running and money laundering.''
Police Commissioner H.T. Sangliana, assisted by senior colleagues, questioned Rai at High Grounds police station for over three hours.
Rai was then produced before a magistrate in his house on Thursday evening. His advocates pleaded that he was tired and needed rest. The magistrate sent him to judicial custody for a day at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The police were asked to take Rai into remand on Friday for further investigations.
During this period, he will be questioned about his control over criminal activities in the country and abroad. The police will seek details on his sympathisers, supporters and financiers here. It is an open secret that Rai carried out his operations from Dubai through his cronies based here. He kept tabs on them via telephone.
