: The Bangalore Mass Rapid Transit Limited (BMRTL) has recommended to the Karnataka government to permit a pilot project of a monorail at half the cost of the ELRTS.
Proposed by an international consortium of Etrans Infrastructure Consulting Private Limited, UK based Frazer-Nash and Malaysia based MMC, the monorail costs Rs 60 crore per km. ``The Rs 700 crore pilot project of 13.5 km from Jaraganahalli to Cantonment Station will be entirely at our cost. We will set up the remaining 85.5 km with equity support from the government,'' Etrans Managing Director Mohammed Ismail Sait told The Times of India.
Etrans made a presentation to the BMRTL and a panel of IAS officers led by Chief Secretary A. Ravindra earlier this month. The BMRTL, however, gave its positive recommendation on the project this week.
Etrans trains will be modular, with size varying as per demand, designed by American company Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. They will be battery powered, as against electric-powered ELRTS trains.
