: Two persons who allegedly impersonated as policemen and demanded bribes from passengers of the Kushinagar Express at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla, were recently arrested by the railway police.
Constable Ajay Elag who allegedly provided them with fake police identity cards has been suspended.
Said railway police commissioner Rakesh Maria, "The duo, Sunil Yevle and Mansingh Rajput, was seen moving in a suspicious manner at L.T. Terminus recently. They were questioned by our constables, who found them carrying Rs 7,300 in cash. The money was collected from passengers travelling in unreserved compartments of the Kushinagar Express. They had threatened the passengers with dire consequences while collecting the sum.''
Investigations have revealed that there are several persons who impersonated as policemen and demanded bribes from passengers in unreserved compartments of U.P. and Bihar-bound trains, sources said.
"We want to appeal to the public to refrain from paying bribes and inform the local railway police about the presence of such extortionists,'' Mr Maria said. Asked if policemen themselves were involved in accepting bribes, he stated, "We will not spare our own men if they are found to be involved in such rackets.''
Mr Maria has suspended constable Elag who is linked to the accused. ...
