Concrete choking city.

: Rapid concretisation in Delhi is as responsible for the civic mess as bad planning. Urban experts say that construction of concrete pavements for increasing parking space and inside colonies is one of the main reasons for waterlogging.
Concrete compounds the civic agency's inability to desilt storm water drains before the onset of monsoon. Concrete hinders ground water replenishment by not allowing rain water to seep into the ground.
Edgar Rebeiro, urban planner and advisor to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC), says builders today are violating the basic principles of urban design. ''A master plan is a structured plan to develop a city. It lays down the floor area ratio and the population density for a colony,'' says Rebeiro.
