: For the common Delhiite, suffering from prolonged power cuts, inflated electricity bills and unresponsive customer services, the news of the privatisation of Delhi Vidyut Board's distribution sector comes as a relief.
''There could be no been better news than this,'' said Anirban Sen, a resident of D-Block Chittranjan Park, which had been powerless for over five days, on Thursday. He said: ''I am glad that privatisation of the DVB is finally happening. I hope the power situation in Delhi improves once private players take over.''
Long spells of power cuts, voltage fluctuations, wrong billing, apathetic staff refusing to take down complaints - Delhiites have had a welter of grievances building up against the DVB. Having given up on the babus to reform the DVB, they have now pinned their hopes on private companies.
Most Delhiites are hoping that Tata Power and BSES would be able to improve the power situation. The two private companies will be taking over the three electricity distribution circles from the state government on Friday. Sameer Sinha, an MNC executive living in Vasant Kunj, hopes that Delhi would become livable once power distribution becomes private.
