: The NDA government has drawn up an ambitious plan of action to deliver on its promise of ensuring women's empowerment but it may well turn out to be nothing more than a mere promise, having failed to address the key issue of resource allocation.
A six-member expert group on gender, which was asked to comment on the plan of action has specifically faulted the document for not looking at this basic issue. ''One of the glaring ommissions in the plan is that it does not make any specific commitment to resources,'' the expert group commented.
The expert group, set up by the women and child department (WCD), comprisesformer bureaucrats Sarla Gopalan and C P Sujaya, Planning Commission adviserT K Sarojini, NCW member secretary Reva Nayyar and women's experts Ranjana umari and Susheela Kaushik.
The group has submitted a detailed analysis of the 90-page document, which seeks to lay down the specific strategies for the WCD's national policy on women.
Spelling out the objective of the plan, the document states specifically that it is ''to identify commitment of resources and ...
