: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to inform it within two days about the steps taken to rehabilitate oustees of the Sardar Sarovar dam, also called Narmada dam.
''Oustees' rehabilitation is the condition precedent to raising of the dam height'', a vacation Bench comprising Justice Santosh N Hegde and Justice S N Variava said while dealing with a petition by the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) alleging that Narmada Control Authority (NCA) allowed raising of the height without proper rehabilitation.
''We want to see whether rehabilitation of the dam oustees was carried out actually or just on paper,'' the Bench said while fixing June 3 for hearing.
