Monrovia, Liberia (PANA) - Liberian security Tuesday evening barred US Ambassador Bismarck Myrick from visiting Counsellor Taiwon Gongloe who has been admitted at a local hospital in Sinkor, Monrovia, after he was severely beaten in a police cell last week.

According to the government, fellow inmates reportedly flogged Gongole while in police custody.

The lawyer denies this, saying the so-called inmates who beat him were in fact security agents planted there to appear as if they were prisoners.

Gongole was arrested last Wednesday in Monrovia to clarify a statement he made in Guinea three weeks ago, when representatives of the civil society group visited Conakry to ease tension with in the Mano River Union basin.
