Bissau, Guinea Bissau (PANA) - Fourteen workers' unions in Guinea-Bissau are on a general strike pressing for the payment of a three-month arrears of their salaries.

The strike has continued despite the announcement of one month salary arrears for public service workers and two months for those in the education and health sectors.

Prime Minister Alamara Nhasse's government was expected to meet trade union leaders with a view to ending the strike. The government said that it would pay all salary arrears owed to workers "as early as possible," while at ...
