Monrovia, Liberia (PANA) - Local players are losing opportunities to show their worth to the outside world as Liberian clubs miss out on continental competitions.
For nearly four years now, no Liberian club has participated in any CAF club competition nor the West African Football Union (WAFU) sub-regional tournament.
Partly due to the absence of a national league for two years, the bulk passes on, however, to the financial drought that has hit Liberian clubs.
Raising the required Liberian dollar, much more the foreign exchange, for travel and other expenses, has been the waterloo of the clubs.
The weakness and unpreparedness of local clubs to duly challenge their foreign counterparts in previous encounters has also bred reluctance among potential sponsors.
The farthest a Liberian club has reached in a CAF competition is a quarter finals berth in the 1980s.
