Johannesburg, South Africa (PANA) - Thousands of South African workers were Wedensday expected to attend Workers' Day rallies organised by the Confederation of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) at 28 venues around the country.

In South Africa, the day is a public holiday that labour groups traditionally use to reaffirm their quest for employment rights, job security, job creation and, lately, the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic which has hit workers the hardest.

COSATU spokesperson Patrick Craven said Wednesday that labour was also concerned with the high numbers of unemployed people and the continued loss of jobs as companies down-sized to maximise profits by cutting ...
