Saint-Denis, Reunion (PANA) - Mauritian Prime Minister Sir Aneerod Jugnauth paid tribute to the country's workers and trade unions in a message to mark Labour Day, Wednesday.
"We are celebrating the workers' inalienable rights. The struggle has been fierce and even tragic at a certain point of our history," Jugnauth said in his message.
He said: "Mauritian workers confronted employers, the colonial power, but also the repressive post-independence government. Trade unions were illegal in Mauritius some three decades ago," he added.
