- President Jiang Zemin arrived Sunday at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) for the fifth anniversary of the SAR and the inauguration of its new government which will take place today.
- Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji urged the country's customs officers Sunday to continue to crack down hard on smuggling so as to increase the country's tariff revenue and boost economic growth.
