CHARLEVILLE, QUEENSLAND, July 1 Asia Pulse - Telstra (ASX:TLS) will spend $A187 million ($US104.63 million) upgrading rural telecommunications over the next year which will provide almost every Australian with mobile telephone coverage.
Telstra Country Wide managing director Doug Campbell unveiled the spending package today in the outback town of Charleville in Queensland which will be amongst 28 areas across Australia managing local projects linked to the package.
Mr Campbell said the spending - part of Telstra's 2002/03 capital expenditure program - would target faults in the existing network.
A total of $A24 million ($US13.43 million) will be spent on upgrading 1250 rural exchanges to provide home lines to 150,000 customers.
