TOKYO, July 1 Asia Pulse - With an aim to encourage new market entrants, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) on Friday proposed that major electric power companies separate their monopolized operations of power transmission equipment, and transfer them to a neutral entity.
In a recommendation drawn up by its task force, the FTC notes that large utilities' monopoly of power supply networks would inform such firms of the nature of transactions between a newcomer, which must use the utilities' networks, and its customers. Such knowledge would be a distinct disadvantage for newcomers.
