It was a sweet moment for the folks at Smith & Wesson. Bob Scott, president of the much-battered company, had just been named recipient of the 2002 Shooting Industry Award, the only individual award presented by the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence.
As Scott made his way to the stage in the Reno, Nev. ballroom, people began to stand, applauding. First, there were those at the Smith & Wesson table, then it swept through the ballroom. Among the first to stand were Bob Morrison, of Taurus, and Ray Oeltjen, formerly of Leupold. Both men were on the final ballot with Scott for the prestigious honor.
