On May 19th, Oak Hill, Tennessee, residents Roy and Patsy Luckett were awakened at around 2 a.m. by the home alarm system. Mr. Luckett, 67, had the choice of grabbing either his own .45-caliber handgun or his wife's .38-caliber firearm. He opted for the less-deadly .38, loaded with "snake shot" (similar to BBs), then went to investigate.
After searching the first floor, he went to the basement, where he heard a noise in a storage room. Opening the door, he found two armed, masked intruders. He fired three times, emptying the .38, then scurried back upstairs to retrieve his .45.
The intruders, both wounded, fled. They were armed with a Bulgarian rifle (similar to an AK-47) and a .22-caliber pistol.
