California's mechanic's lien law. (Construction Corner).
Introduction
The sacrosanct principle of fairness is achieved in the construction industry through the mechanic's lien which essentially gives persons or entities that contribute to a work of improvement a security interest in that project up to the amount of their contribution. It is the only body of law which allows persons not contracting with an owner to place a lien on the owner's real property before filing suit and obtaining a court judgment.
