Enterprise Resource Planning software, or ERP-those words inspire nightmares to most managers. The name itself is a misnomer, as most credit and receivable practitioners would assert. The acronym appropriately sounds like a digestive reaction to a bad tuna sandwich. The reference to "Enterprise" is somewhat applicable because it is through that scheme that an ERP system has its strength. "Resource" is a suitable, yet somewhat misleading term as will be discussed later. However, -- "Planning"--forget about it. ERP doesn't do much of that.
