HOW do you guys start a gaming retrospective (March 2002, pg. 20) in 19927 Even 3D gaming had started before then. There was Battlezone way back in the '80s, to say nothing of Wolfenstein 3D. You gave an awful lot of space to the Myst series. Myst was groundbreaking in every sense of the word, and certainly a highlight. Ripen was less so, but probably could be considered groundbreaking due to its scope. By then, there were other games with equally nice graphics, though. Myst III, while beautiful, wasn't groundbreaking at all and I don't see the justification for including it here. Ultima Online or Everquest would have been a better highlight than Myst III and the absence of any online games is somewhat surprising.

Tomb Raider makes it in, but Doom, Quake, Quake III and Half-Life don't? Tomb Raider was certainly a good game, but the most groundbreaking thing about it was the idea of giving the lead character breasts.

Overall a very odd selection of `highlights', and made all the more so by the obvious highlights that are missing. There doesn't seem to be any consistent criteria used for what made a game worthy of inclusion. Obviously any retrospective is partly opinion hut with the large number of game titles released I would expect a `highlight' to stand head and shoulders above the crowd in some ...
