DALLAS -- Efficient Networks, a subsidiary of Siemens Corp., today announced general availability of the Siemens se5940 T1 Business Gateway, a device that combines a T1 CSU/DSU, router, robust firewall, VPN, 10/100 Ethernet switch and v.90 modem for dial backup. Supporting access to any type of T1 network -- frame relay, ATM, or leased line T1 -- the se5940 enables service providers to deliver cost-effective T1 services to the small and medium business (SMB) and enterprise branch office (EBO) markets, both of which are historically underserved by high-value services like T1.
"With the release of the se5940, Efficient Networks leverages its leadership in value-add services to include T1 technology," said Dano Ybarra, vice president and general manager of the Business Solutions Division at Efficient Networks. "This device enables service providers to offer enterprise-class T1 service in a package that is easy to deploy and support, and easy for customers to implement and use. Its robust routing capabilities, state-of-the-art security features, and simple centralized management interface make the se5940 an ideal -- and complete -- solution for businesses to take advantage of falling T1 costs to enhance productivity with reliable high-speed network access."
The se5940 enables service providers to deliver value-added services that generate recurring revenue, including virtual private networks (VPNs), managed security, high availability and premium network access. It incorporates an eight-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, a basic business firewall and IP Quality of Service (QoS) with support for DiffServ and Weighted Fair Queuing. The se5940 enables secure management with up to 15 administrative roles, RADIUS management authentication, and secure management communications over SSH or IPSec. The business gateway offers three high-value optional features: an ICSA-compliant stateful inspection firewall for enterprise-grade security, a dedicated encryption processor to accelerate VPN performance and an integrated v.90 modem to ensure high availability of Internet access.
"Our tests of the se5940 prove that it meets our high performance standards," said Sean Minter, president and COO at IP Communications. "We are confident it will enable us to deliver reliable T1 services to businesses with greater value and uncompromising performance."
