A veteran of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys and, as leader of the Sunny Mountain Boys, a nurturer of such world-class talents as banjoist J. D. Crowe and mandolinist Paul Williams, Jimmy Martin's place in bluegrass history is assured. Yet he has never gotten the respect he deserves; a notoriously irascible personality and a marked predilection for novelty tunes have kept him on the periphery of the mainstream. This is unfortunate.
