Though not as widely celebrated as his older brother, Michael Haydn is responsible for some of the most charming orchestral music of the high classical period. His choral music is less frequently recorded, making this disc worthy of notice despite some noticeable flaws. It combines two works, the Missa St. Leopoldi (sung with the plainchant propers and incorporating two of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's church sonatas as interlude pieces during the offertory and voluntary) and the Vespers for Holy Innocents ...
