Fred M. Bindman, music cataloger and former head of the Music Section, Descriptive Cataloging Division and Special Materials Cataloging Division at the Library of Congress, died at the age of 72 on 1 October 2001, in Washington, D.C. A resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, he was born in New York and grew up in Mattapan, Massachusetts. Bindman graduated from Boston University majoring in musicology and received his M.L.S. degree from Simmons College in Boston. He came to the Library of Congress in 1953 as a music cataloger in the Copyright Office Cataloging Division and was a charter member of the Music Section when it was formed in 1957.
