The Paint Runner, $20 plus shipping, claims to be nothing less than extraordinary--\cheaper, quicker, and more convenient than an ordinary paint roller.

It works like this: Instead of using a paint tray, you pour paint (up to a quart) into the roller tube of the Paint Runner and close the cap. As you roll, paint is released. The roller rinses clean in seconds, the ads say.

Our experience would not make for good ad copy.

Prep. Once you've poured paint into the Paint Runner, you're supposed to roll it over newspapers to allow the paint to seep out to the roller pad. This took us 3 to 5 minutes--\and left us with a wet mess. By contrast, we rolled a regular roller in a paint tray ...
