SANTA FE A Cerrillos woman whose neighbors already have telephones said she was told she would have to come up with $162,000 if she wanted telephone service.
A Belen man whose home is 1,700 feet from a phone box said he was told he had to pay US West $49,000 before he could get service.
The state Public Regulation Commission and the state attorney general's office say they have tried for years to work out a solution with Denver-based US West, to no avail.
