Nov. 8--D&E Communications Inc. on Tuesday reported a 69.4 percent drop in net profits for the third quarter, due to a pair of losses.

Net profits were $731,000 (5 cents a share), down from $2.39 million (17 cents a share) in the year-earlier quarter. Revenues slid 1.1 percent to $40.6 million from $41.1 million.

Hurting profits were an after-tax loss of $600,000 on the early extinguishment of debt and an after-tax loss of $900,000 on the sale of its voice systems business. Meanwhile, the 2005 quarter was lifted by a $400,000 favorable tax adjustment. …
