MTNA has named David Mullikin of Lakewood, Colorado, the 2002 MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year for his composition entitled Voice of the River Han, commissioned by the Colorado Music Teachers Association.
Voice of the River Han is a song cycle for soprano and piano trio with Korean-influenced melodies and rhythms. It is comprised of eight songs, representing four poets plus two anonymous works. The dates of the poetry span the thirteenth through the eighteenth centuries.
