Moroni, Comoros (PANA) - Presidential elections were held Sunday in the autonomous Comoran islands of Moheli and Anjouan amid question marks over when to organise the second round presidential ballot for the Union of Comoros, slated for 14 April and for which primaries were held in Grand Comoro on 17 March.
"The Transitional Government of National Unity (GUNT) thinks that there is no reason for postponing the ballot", the minister for production, Said Ali Boinali, a close ally of presidential candidate Col. Azali Assoumani, told PANA in Moroni.
No consensus date has been agreed in the Follow-up Committee, which has been meeting since Thursday.
In a memorandum published recently in Moroni, presidential candidates Mahamoud Mradabi and Said Ali Kemal demanded the postponement of second ballot.
They want the ballot to be held after the referendum and presidential election in Grand Comoro, so as to prevent the elected president of the Union from influencing the outcome.
