Monrovia, Liberia (PANA) - A four-man team from the UN Security Council Monday began discussions with Liberian government officials as part of its week-long mission in the West African nation.
However, members of the UN team, which arrived in the country Sunday and Liberian officials were tight-lipped as they left the foreign ministry in Monrovia.
The UN team comprises Atabou Bodian of Senegal, an expert from the International Civil Aviation Organisation and Johna Peleman of Belgium, an expert on arms and transportation.
Other members of the team are Harjit Sandhu of India, and expert from the International Police organisation (Interpol) and Alex Vines of the United Kingdom, an expert on diamonds.
The team is charged to conduct follow-up assessment missions to Liberia and neighbouring countries to investigate and compile an independent audit of Liberia's compliance with requirements for the lifting of sanctions the UN security council imposed on Monrovia last May.
