JAKARTA, June 3 Asia Pulse - The Indonesian government has announced plans to build a 6,000-km Trans-Kalimantan (Borneo) Highway for a total investment of Rp 25 trillion (around US$2.84 billion).
Resettlement and Regional Infrastructure Minister Soenarno said Friday that part of the allocation for the project would hopefully be approved in the 2003 state budget so that work can start next year.
"In June, we will discuss the draft 2003 state budget. During the deliberations, the Resettlement and Regional Infrastructure Ministry will propose the construction of the highway," he said after signing a spatial layout plan of Kalimantan island with governors from Kalimantan.
