TEHRAN, June 3 Asia Pulse - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said that more transfers of technology from the developed nations would help remove the backwardness in developing countries.
In a meeting with Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Carlos Alfredo Magarinos, President Khatami said that the wide gap between the "north" and "south" countries posed a threat to humanity.
He condeded that donations were not the solution for the removal of all backwardness in the south countries, adding that all the countries should be provided with assistance and technological know-how to proceed with the development of their own enormous resources.
President Khatami said that UNIDO had an effective role in providing the developing nations with expertise to go ahead with industrial development.
He said that the specialized agency of the United Nations should serve international peace and security through fair distribution of technological know-how among the developing nations adding that putting an end to discrimination and pressure against the nations would be effective in fostering international peace and security.
President Khatami said that unilateral and hegemonic policy now being exercised in the world hampers justice.
