SYDNEY, June 3 Asia Pulse - The Australian dollar opened weaker this morning after coming close to passing the $US0.5700 level over the weekend.
At 0700 AEST the Australian dollar was worth $US0.5656/61 compared to 0.5682/87 at Friday's close.
The Australian dollar was given a strong boost on Friday after the Reserve Bank of Australia governor Ian Macfarlane indicated that interest rates in Australia were tipped to run higher.
These comments, as well as the continued weakness in the US dollar which has become apparent in recent times, have combined to se the domestic unit run higher.
