Acterna job cuts minimal in Manatee.(BUSINESS)

MANATEE COUNTY -- Acterna Corp., the nation's second-largest maker of communications testing equipment, is slashing its global work force by 8 percent after posting a wider fourth quarter loss, but the cuts will barely touch its local division.

The Germantown, Md.-based company has already cut 4,100 jobs worldwide, including 145 at its Manatee County plant, since early fiscal 2002.

But the latest reduction will cause only one layoff at the Manatee unit, formerly Cheetah Technologies, at 2501 63rd Ave. E.
