Abstract
This qualitative study examines teacher effectiveness by examining the perceptions, feelings, and ideas of non-educators. Through the use of interviews and drawings adult non-educators were asked to describe and differentiate between effective and less effective teachers that they had as young learners. Three major themes emerged from the data collected: (1) the emotional needs of learners; (2) power; and (3) the "fit" or match between the teacher and the student, relative to temperament.
